A new chapter at Mamie Coco

A new chapter at Mamie Coco

There is a quiet shift happening at Mamie Coco Atelier.

Not something entirely new, but something that has been forming over time — through the way the work is approached, the rhythm of the making, and the space in which it now lives.

Earlier this year, I returned from England back to Portugal to open my own atelier. A space of my own, shaped slowly, where everything could come together — the craft I grew up around, the last few years of training, and the constant pull back to making.

I was raised in northern Portugal, in a family that worked in jewellery for three generations. My after/school afternoons were spent in the shop, in and out of goldsmiths’ workshops, watching hands at the bench, polishing silverware, learning without knowing I was learning. There was always a quiet understanding there — that good work takes time.

For a while, I followed a different path. I became a veterinarian, later moving to England to continue my studies, particularly in the field of surgery. I was always drawn to working with my hand and that chapter shaped me in ways I only fully understand now. It taught me precision, patience, and a deep attentiveness to small details — the kind that are easy to overlook, but impossible to ignore once you notice them.

My days were spent in veterinary work, and my evenings at the bench. Jewellery became a quiet counterbalance — a way to slow down, to focus differently. I took courses, returned to workshops, and gradually deepened my understanding of the craft.

At the same time, something else was quietly taking root. In Britain, long walks through British gardens — known for their seemingly effortless balance of colour and form, yet so carefully considered — deepened something I had always felt. A love for flowers and the way nature is shaped, guided, but never forced.

Returning to jewellery felt less like a decision, and more like a continuation.

The new atelier is now where all this meets.

Nothing is made quickly. Each piece is built with care, often one at a time, allowing the materials to guide the final form. Pearls, gold, and stones — chosen for their natural character, their quiet variations, and the way they hold light.

This new chapter is not about doing more, but about being back home and doing things with greater clarity. Letting the work settle into itself. Creating pieces that feel resolved, that can be worn easily, returned to often, and kept over time.

Jewellery not for a single moment, but for many.

Thank you for being here, whether you have just arrived or have been following quietly for some time. It means more than I can say.
